Vaccines at Nursing Homes Start Monday
Moderna's coronavirus vaccinations, in addition to the Pfizer's have been approved for use and each state has the ability to create there own need assessment to determine priority for who gets vaccinations first. Massachusetts has listed nursing home patients to some as some of those who are among that priority list. As such, Monday after Christmas, the 28th is the day that those nursing home residents and healthcare workers can begin receiving the Covid19 vaccinations.
While this is good news and many should hopefully agree the wisdom in protecting those who have been the hardest hit population of this new virus, some may still be skeptical. Regardless. as this is viewed a great achievement to have a vaccination already approved and ready to be deployed so quickly, with the green light from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, this does not present with out some logistical challenges. Getting it to the nursing homes, may take some time as the medication still needs to be transported and stored safely to each facility.
Taking a strong lead in helping to deliver these vaccinations to the Nursing homes is the CVS chain. The reach, manpower, and storage abilities of CVS across the state should help to accelerate just how quickly these vaccinations get rolled out. CVS has hundreds of retail/pharmacy locations across the state alone! To top that number off, Massachusetts has been set to receive a first round supply wave of 60,000 doses of the new vaccinations. Walgreens will also be helping to deliver the vaccinations.
So far some in Massachusetts have already recieved Pfizer's vaccinations like those front line workers serving East Boston. The relief felt by many from the hope being delivered by the vaccinations is almost palpable. Massachusetts Nursing homes have been some of the hardest hit in the county for these and other long term health facilities to be prioritized in getting the new vaccinations is wonderful and the speed in which this rollout is happening is fantastic. Let us hope the effectiveness and speed of rollout continues to benefit those working the front line and the patients and residents that they serve.
