The new Nantucket Cottage Hospital is a fortress

News about the new Nantucket hospital is still coming in and what we know is impressive. The building itself will be 30 percent larger than the one that it is replacing. The building that is part of Partners HealthCare is being built to withstand the worst that mother nature has been dealing out in the storm department. Hospitals are all about caring for those in medical need yet as we have seen in recent (and distant events), that mother nature is indiscriminate on whom she shows her wrath.

The new hospital is set to open later this year and has been built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane. To be put that into perspective, the United States has only ever had 3 Hurricanes hit the United States as a Category 5. The last one to do so was in about 25 years ago, although the way the world was rocked by last year;s Hurricane Irma, has not been lost on many, especially the engineers, risk advisors, and top decision makers.

Nantucket hospital sits 30 miles off the coast of Cape Cod, a world away it seems when the storms come and the boats stop traveling between the island and mainland and flights become grounded. The beauty of the new hospital allows for Nantucket residence to know their safety is a priority as the new upgraded building allows for more storage and longer services for those who are most at need.

One thing is for sure, that the residents and visitors of Nantucket alike, can take comfort in the fact the hospital is prepared for the worst case scenario. Check here for more on the upcoming opening and an in-depth look of the design.
